Selections: lo Champagne by Benoit Marguet
Enoteca Cremona has selected for you 3 bottles of champagne from the house of Benoit Marguet. Disciple of Selosse and cellarman of Krug, Benoit owns approx 8 hectares of vineyards in Ambonnay and part of its extraordinary grapes gives them to Krug. Produces approx 40000 bottles per year, only Gran Crù, according to the dictates of biodynamics: no chemistry either in the plant or in the cellar. In the vineyard only on foot or on horseback and the harvest is, needless to say, manual in order to choose the best bunches ever. Spontaneous fermentation on its own yeasts and zero dosage, with enrichments used exclusively with refrigerated vintage musts, complete the production picture of the one who is considered the future of champagne: Bull elegance, very personal that in the glass express all the love that Marguet places in his vineyards with audacity and elegance.
Shaman 17 is produced with Pinot Nero al 67% and Chardonnay 33% from the Ambonnay and Bouzy plots, Mountain of Reims. Both are classified as Grand Crù. The rows have on average 40 years: the vines have a strong shrub and roots well rooted in nutrient-rich soils. The vinifications take place separated in barriques, where they will remain for at least a couple of years, to then proceed with the assembly before the second fermentation. In this way, Benoit reserves the right to always express its terroir at its best. Indeed, 17 it is the year of the reference harvest, but Shaman is, and will also be partly composed of vinifications from other vintages. In the glass it has a typically straw color, slightly golden. The grain of the bubbles is fine, and has a good shelf life. On the nose it orchestrates on fruity notes, citrus fruits and even honey. On the palate it is medium-bodied, wide and snug, with a drink characterized by a pleasant freshness and an enchanting creaminess.
Ambonnay 2015 is produced from Pinot Noir grapes 53% and chardonnay 47% from exclusively from the vineyards of Ambonnay. As for the Shaman, the first fermentation takes place in barrique exclusively on indigenous yeasts, while the second, obviously in the bottle, it will last at least 48 months before delivery without dosing. In the glass it has a beautiful golden yellow color, intense but not too heavy, with very fine and very rich perlage; the nose reveals hints of citrus fruits such as pink grapefruit and orange, ripe fruit with white pulp and puffs of leavening and pastry. The nose is intense, rich, pulpy with excellent tension and structure on the palate. Bubble with a dry and mineral finish with a long persistence. 5348 bottles.
Saints Remy 2014 it's a Place-Said of Pinot Noir in the village of Ambonnay. E’ the first "parcel" of Benoit as it is vinified exclusively from a very small vineyard located in the famous village on the Montagne de Reims. The grapes are fermented the first time for 9 months in different woods of different sizes, always on its own yeasts, to then be assembled and refermented 4 years in bottle always on its own lees. In the glass it is golden, almost "coppery" with very fine and persistent perlage; the nose is very fine and very rich with hints ranging from ripe red fruits such as strawberries and cherries, hints of leavening and minerals. On the palate it is velvety, intense, “Often” with clear and decisive flavors: agrumati, fruttsti, savory with an excellent structure that elegantly supports the drink. Intense sip finish, very long, engaging. 2446 bottles.
