Selections: the Veneto of Sandro GINI
Enoteca Cremona has selected Sandro Gini's Three Great Wines for you: the Campo Alle More Pinot Nero, the Contrada Salvarenza “Vecchie Vigne” Soave Classico, the Maciete Fumè Sauvignon Veneto. I Gini: family of winemakers since 1500 so much so that studies have brought to light that in Contrada Salvarenza, this family already owned some vineyards. The knowledge has been handed down for generations to Olinto Gini, born in early 900 and father of Sandro, Claudio, Martha who today carry on this age-old tradition. Olinto farmer and winemaker with an imposing build as much as his passion for the land and the life it gave him, he had huge hands, thick and worn out from work on his land and his vines. Sometimes I wonder how it was possible that so strong and "bulky" limbs could treat a fragile fruit like grapes with so much care. He loved and cared for his lands with tradition and innovation by working in harmony with nature: were the first in 1985, and it has always been like that ever since, to vinify without the use of sulfur dioxide. This, has in fact revolutionized the world of oenology by opening up new possibilities and visions in the world of wine production. Both in their vineyards and in the cellar, the idea of not using any kind of chemical support has changed what to do and when: "Now our most important task", as Sandro says,”Is to make the screws talk, the grapes and knowing how to listen to them ". Biological and Biodynamic always.
Campo alle More 2013 comes from an ancient vineyard owned by the family with average vines 30 years of age. It was Sandro, than after his French studies, imported into its high hill land, clones of Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Soils with excellent exposure and clayey limestone soils perfect for the growth and prosperity of this variety of vines. “Campo alle More” because as well as already anticipating the fruity and complex notes of this wine, blackberry brambles thrive around and between the vineyard rows. In the glass it is bright ruby red, access. The nose is complex and constantly evolving with notes of berries such as blackberry, morello cherry and with pleasant notes of spices. On the palate it is particularly rich and fresh, it expresses itself with great elegance and is enveloping and silky. Great Pinot Noir, suitable for long aging and surprising for its French "charm", but that has all the Italian passion.
Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne 2016. The name is said to come from Renza, young man who was saved by a group of brigands by a noble knight in the very place where this incredible vineyard is located. Old Vineyards: located in 150 mt of altitude, this Crù Contrada Salvarenza is located on the hills of Monteforte and is unique in the whole Soave area as the 75% of the vines have on average 80 years and the 25% of those remaining more than 100 years. This was the Gini's biggest bet: do not uproot those vines that miraculously saved themselves from phylloxera. No one owns such long-lived vines with a free foot and which are, among other things, located on land that has yes’ magnificent exposure, but which also has soils ranging from volcanic tuff to clayey carclareo. In the glass it has a bright gold color with bright green reflections. The nose is complex and deep with hints ranging from white to tropical fruit to then express sweet notes such as honey and vanilla and also a final hint of spices. On the palate it is dense, round, intense. It could be called "fat" as it is rich in sensations and evolutions. Flavors of ripe pear, yellow peach, cloves amaze at the sip for their strength and balance. Equipped with excellent structure, intrigues and tempts every taste even for the savory finish, minerals, clear and persistent. One of a kind white, it is surprising that vines that are a century old can make a wine so “easy” to understand and enjoy.
Maciéte Fumè 2016 in Veronese dialect, means small spot. The vineyard of this Sauvignon is in fact as if it were a small spot being alone 2 hectares…Fumè as a synonym for the typical scents of this grape. Produced from vines having on average 16 years of soil with excellent exposure and with soil rich in minerals. In the glass it is bright straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose it expresses a beautiful floral and fruity bouquet with herbaceous and mineral hints: boxwood leaf, citrus peel such as pink and orange grapefruit and "ferrous" scents. On the palate it is wide and elegant, envelops you with fresh and savory sensations: mela, hawthorn above all with a mineral finish with a nice vanilla sensation. Very limited production of this company gem, produced for true fans of the genre but also for lovers of aromatic white wines.
